Capt. Steve,

Sorry to hear about your brutal trip - Lord knows I've had them, as well. Had my motor give up the ghost a year or so back and had to pole my way across a huge bay against tide and big winds. I was a bag of jelly once I hit the dock. Ah well, it happens. Wishing great luck to you in the new year, regardless.

John

p.s.- We were down in the No Name Bar on Big Pine last July - great pizza, cold beers. Love that whole area, and wish I could swing a little house on the water down that way.

Man, that basically summarizes my 4 day charter I had in Big Pine Key the weekend of Dec. 17, 18, 19 & 20. That was the weekend of the third front in a row when it rained extremely hard on Fri., Dec. 18th. We fished 2 hours Thursday, none on Friday and spent the day in Key West drinking the day away, 6 hours on Saturday in 20-30 knt winds and had a 5 foot wave break over the bow of my 16' Mitziskiff in the backcountry and it took 20 minutes to pump my bilge and while looking down at the shin high water in the cockpit I missed the turn off to round the island and end up in the deep water tounge in between two flats and had to pole against that 20-30 knt wind when I grounded out 2 feet away from a flock of wading birds. After trying a bridge to no avail, I popped open a Coors light and announced the Capt. has officially ended this trip and made it home Sunday afternoon in time to watch the Dolphin game. The point is I was driving home in a down and out mood and I can honestly say that this was the worst fishing trip I've ever been on but I started thinking about what I learned from this trip and that is what I caught.
